ON YOUR BIKE: This is some of the action spectators can expect at the opening round of the North West Victorian Motorcycle Club’s motocross season this Sunday.

JAMBAROO Park will come alive to the sounds of more than 100 motocross bikes this Sunday as the North West Victorian Motorcycle Club launches its long awaited 2011 motocross season.
This weekend’s event has been a long time coming for the club which, along with many other sporting clubs, sustained serious flood damage earlier this year.
February’s record rain and resulting flooding left only the very tips of the club’ motocross track visible.
The club had pumped the majority of water from the track when yet more rain undid members’ work several weeks later, representing a major setback to the 2011 motocross season, which was to start in March.
It’s taken several months while running other events, including the massive KTM Hattah Desert Race in July, but the club has finally removed the water and worked the track back into pristine condition ready for this weekend’s first motocross event at the club’s home.
Club spokesperson Kylie Phillips said a small group of dedicated club members had spent the past six weeks not only removing any remaining water, but repairing and preparing the track for this weekend’s motocross series launch.
Kylie said while the club was expecting a full field of riders, Pee Wee class riders would not charged an entry fee in a bid to bring more young riders into the sport.
This weekend’s event will be the first of three motocross rounds at Jambaroo Park this year.
The remaining two rounds will be held on Sunday, September 18 and Sunday, October 9.
Kylie said this season would be the last time riders and spectators would see the existing motocross circuit in its current form.
She said a full re-design of the club’s motocross track was planned during the summer months to bring it up to State level in an effort to hold bigger motocross events next season.
Rider sign-on for this Sunday’s event is from 7.30am to 8.30am while racing will get underway from 9am.
