Sunraysia’s newest national champions

Posted on October 24, 2011

SUNRAYSIA Motorsport Club has two new Australian champions in its midst.

Sunraysia's Aaron James and Brett Plant getting some serious air at the Pines Enduro earlier this year.

Aaron James and Brett Plant are the 2011 Australian Pro Lite Buggy champions after the final round of the series last weekend was called off due to rain.

James and Plant have been the lead team throughout this year’s championship, regularly challenging the top tier Pro categories for outright honours.

The cancellation of last weekend’s finale was bitter sweet news for the Sunraysia duo.

While it meant they were immediately crowned champions in their class due to a healthy points lead, it denied James and Plant the chance to elevate themselves in the outright standings.

The Sunraysia team was only three points behind third overall and was confident of challenging for a podium finish.

“We were obviously happy to get the Pro Lite title, and that was what we were mainly aiming for, but a bit disappointed we didn’t get a chance to race for outright positions,” James said this week.

James and Plant are only in their second Pro Lite season together and are already planning for next season’s campaign.

James confirmed he’ll once again race in the Pro Lite class, but has his sights set on the outright positions.

“Now that we’ve got this title under our belt, we’re going to try to push a bit harder in the races next year – more outright racing than concerned about points,” he said yesterday.
