MILDURA’S Renshinkan Mixed Martial Art group has enjoyed a successful debut at its new Scott Crescent headquarters, with more than 100 members and an equal number of spectators enjoying the group’s final grading session for 2011 last Saturday.
Featuring a number of belt gradings, the highlight of the day were three 40-man black belt gradings, which saw participants engage in a gruelling 40 minute marathon.
Utilising all of their skills and knowledge, participants proved their mettle in front of the strong crowd, with Tybias Smith proving the standout of the three.
Our photographs feature Tybias during his 40-man challenge, demonstrating how hard the youngster had to work to complete the grading.
MMA chief instructor, Mick Moloney, said he had been pleased with both the turn-out and the performance of competitors.
“In the past when we’ve had gradings we’ve only been able to fit 20 to 30 spectators,” he said. “Last Saturday we easily had more than 100 people come through, which meant our participants had plenty of support.
“It was a fantastic event, and everyone who graded did very well.
“It was also really exciting for everyone to be in the new facilities for our first major event, and it certainly gave everyone a lift.”
