HAVING fun and learning new skills was the goal for close to 30 of Sunraysia’s more gifted and enthusiastic dance students this week, after taking part in a three day workshop.
Held at Dance Studio Inc.’s Lemon Avenue headquarters, the workshop saw dancers of all ages and experience levels learn from some of the best instructors in not just Sunraysia, but Victoria, with mastering Jazz, Hip Hop, Funk, Ballet, Contemporary and a host of other styles on the cards.
Open to all comers, students ranged from nine to 33 years of age, with Dance Studio Inc. instructor, Kristie Clark, saying that the workshop had proved a major success.
“This dance studio is only in its second year, and one of the main aims when it first started was to offer a studio that anyone could enjoy and utilise – regardless of experience or ability,” she said.
“It was the same with this workshop, we wanted to offer an event that anyone could take part in, with the response fantastic.
“All 30 dancers have had an absolute ball so far, with the emphasis on having fun, learning as much as possible, and continuing the development of students.”
Participants – while having the opportunity to improve their technique in a variety of dance genres – also had the chance to work alongside some of Victoria’s more talented dance instructors, with 21-year-old, Kathleen Hants, included in that group.
On hand to take both junior and senior dancers through their paces, Kathleen – who is currently the product of Melbourne’s prestigious and highly successful Michelle Slater Performing Arts Studio – said she had enjoyed her first trip to Mildura.
“It’s been a lot of fun,” she said. “Both the junior and senior students that I’ve had the opportunity to work with have been full of energy, and extremely willing to learn as much as they can.
“With the young students it’s all about making the sessions fun and enjoyable, while at the same time trying to pass on knowledge.
“With the older students, classes become a bit more demanding, and each participant has really responded well to what’s been on offer.”
An experienced teacher and performer in her own right, Kathleen said she had been impressed with all participants.
“Everyone has given it a real go, and there are certainly a number of talented dancers in the region,” she said.
