DON’T underestimate the power of a properly fitted bra.
That’s the message that Mildura’s All About Me Undergear owner Sharyon Peart wants the women of Sunraysia to hear.
“People don’t realise how much a correctly fitted bra contributes to a woman’s health and well-being,” Sharyon said.
She believes that for some women, the experience can even be life-changing.
“Very often when we fit a woman for a bra she will give us a hug or cry because she’s been so uncomfortable for so long,” Sharyon said.
And with 80 percent of the world’s women wearing ill-fitted bras, Sharyon said it’s more important than ever to get fitted by a professional.
“When women come to us, almost all the time they will be wearing a bra that is too big in one area and too small in another,” she said.
“It’s impossible to fit yourself.”
She says there is still a misconception among some women that bras are supposed to be uncomfortable.
“Women tell me that they can’t wear bras anymore because they’ve put on weight or can’t wear an underwire because it digs in, but it’s because they are wearing the wrong one,” Sharyon said.
“They are not supposed to be uncomfortable, you shouldn’t even know you have it on.”
Sharyon said that getting a properly fitted bra not only helps to preserve breast ligaments (that once stretched cannot be repaired) but also has a powerful impact on a woman’s self-esteem.
“Women find that their clothes fit better, their overall shape changes and they get confidence from that,” she said.
In a world of online shopping, Sharyon says businesses that offer professional bra fitting services are on the decline.
“It’s a dying art because people think they don’t have the time to get a bra fitted, but it really only takes 20 minutes,” she said.
“If you are a wearing a bra that fits you correctly and you’re comfortable all day, you’re going to end up feeling a whole lot better about yourself.”
