VETERAN Irymple Armed Services Reservist Sergeant Darrel Jack will have a special Christmas and New Year present waiting for him when he gets back from his peacekeeping duties in the Solomon Islands – a new baby.
Sgt Jack, 43, will become a father for the second time early in the New Year. He’ll be re-united with wife Sharon, daughter Rhiannon and the new arrival in the first week of April, marking the end of a four-month voluntary stint overseas.
Darrel’s mum Anne said this week that members of the family got a brief phone call on Christmas Day, which Darrel was lucky enough to have off. “It was very quick,” Anne said. “Just to say he was going okay, and to wish us all a Merry Christmas. He’s really enjoying his duties over there.”
Darrel was born in Melbourne, but came to Mildura with his parents as a one-year-old. His dad John passed away several years ago, but not before teaching Darrel a love of shooting, with both of them excelling as members of Mildura …
