East End project boost

BUXTON Sobee Park, near Ambleside Crescent in Mildura’s East End, is set for a major facelift following approval of more than $100,000 in Federal Government funding.
The money will be used to build a new playground area and seating, a half basketball court, and a new barbecue and shelter.
Mildura Mayor Glenn Milne said building on the impressive work already undertaken in the area, including the East End Community House, was a priority for Council.
“The East End community project is a fantastic initiative,” he said. “You’ve just got to look at the community garden and the work they’ve done there, it’s working really well, and it’s important that this area of town gets looked after.
“Council has been looking for some time at what we could do down there, and all the Councillors have been concerned that not a lot has happened recently.
“This is an area that has been used for multicultural days and all sorts of different activities, but it just needs some more facilities here, particularly for local children, so they’ve got a decent area in which to play.”
Fellow Councillor, Fiona Hilton-Wood, has been heavily involved in the East End community project and said the $114,000 in Federal Government funding which Council sought would be a valuable cash injecti...
