FEDERAL Member for Mallee John Forrest says a recent Snowy River Hydro report that indicated increased rainfall from cloud seeding trials has vindicated his belief that cloud seeding is a legitimate science.
Mr Forrest, who investigated cloud seeding in depth during a study trip to Texas in the United States in 2002, told the Mildura Weekly that Snowy Hydro had now submitted its report to the NSW government.
“In summary, independent evaluation of the trial has shown that under suitable conditions, there was a 14 percent increase in snowfall in seeded storms, with no adverse impact on areas downwind of the cloud seeding target area,” he said.
Mr Forrest said two independent reviews of the results found the research to be sound, noting “a careful, rigorous and wide-ranging evaluation of an experiment that was well designed, and particularly well executed,” and importantly, “that the evaluation can be accepted with confidence.”
In addition, environmental monitoring had shown no evidence of any adverse environmental impacts.
Mr Forrest is well versed on the subject of cloud seeding, following CSIRO progress, Tasmanian and Snowy Mountains trials, and having written a lengthy report - ‘Harvesting The Skies’ - on his return from the USA study trip. The report, totalling more than 7...
