PREPARATIONS are in place for the 2017 Mildura All Abilities Cricket Carnival.

The eighth instalment of the annual event, which promotes accessibility to to playing sport for everybody, will take place on Thursday, October 19, and Friday, October 20.

Mildura Weekly is a proud supporter of the All Abilities Cricket Carnival, which takes place at Mildura Senior College.

Mallee Sports Assembly (MSA) yesterday announced that Country Care Group had pledged their support of the event for the fourth year. The event is also supported by Mildura Settlers Cricket Club, Mildura Rural City Council, Cricket Victoria, and Merbein and District Community Bank

MSA’s Tanya Wild said the event had grown to be inviting and welcoming to old and new cricketers.

“We’ve had contact for a team from Ballarat this week, which is the first time we will have had one from there,“ she said.

“Warracknabeal have a team in and registered, so it’s all looking pretty good.

“We had 120 players last year and we think we should get at least that again.”

To ensure the sustainable growth of the carnival, MSA is calling for further community support.

Sponsorship packages are available for the 2017 event across two levels – minor and in-kind goods and services.

In 2017 the carnival has school and senior divisions, allowing more players to be involved and compete against similar age groups.

The event provides people with disabilities an opportunity to participate and play cricket in a friendly and competitive environment. A number of schools and groups have already expressed their interest in returning to Mildura to defend their titles.

MSA is encouraging more groups to submit teams in 2017.

Teams of 10 or more can enrol at a cost of $8 a person.
