Zara McDermott (5) with her grandfather and Vietnam Veteran Paul McDermott

THIS Wednesday will mark the 102nd anniversary of the end of World War One, and although the traditional 11am services will not take place to commemorate the occasion due to current COVID-19 restrictions, the community is still encouraged to mark the occasion.

School children throughout Sunraysia will pause for a minute’s silence in their classrooms while veterans and their families will pause to reflect those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Zara McDermott, 5, is very proud of her grandfather Paul McDermott, who served in the Vietnam Veteran Paul McDermott on the HMAS Hobart for two tours of duty during the Vietnam War, and wears a poppy in his honour with pride.

Paul who is 74, has volunteered as a pension and welfare advocate with the Mildura RSL for more than 10 years and last year became the latest member of the Mildura sub-branch to be awarded a life membership. Lest We Forget.
