Gol Gol footballer Adam Thomson certainly got off on the right foot as the new coach of the club on Friday night, booting 10 goals in their match against Meringur.
Thomson was appointed coach of the team before last season, but with games cancelled due to COVID he has had to wait until last weekend to pull on the brown and yellow stripes.
Thomson’s previous best haul was nine goals when he was playing for Werrimull in 2012. Ironically it was against the Hawks, and in a losing team.
“I was lucky that a few of the other forwards looked after me pretty well on Friday night,” Thompson said.
“Having Reece Collins down there made my job a lot easier.”
Thomson led his team to a 98 point win over the Roos, and said it was great to get a win in the first game of the season.
“Gol Gol have had a rough couple of years recently so it was really important we backed up the strong pre-season we have had and get a win in Round One,” Thomson said.
