MILDURA’S Junior Heat Basketball teams travelled to Shepparton on the weekend for the first tournament of the season.
Fourteen teams took part in the event, consisting of close to 140 athletes.
This included seven Division One teams, six Division Two teams and one Division Three team.
The Under 18 Boys, Under 16 Boys an Under 12 Boys in Division One all made the grand final, as did the Under 16 Boys in Division Two.
Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, all finished runners up.
The Under 18 Boys Division One team met the Shepparton Gators in their grand final, going down 45 to 59.
In the Under 16 Boys Division One grand final, the Heat played Warrnambool Seahawks, and were defeated by 15 points. Zac Derosa (10 points), Jye Porker and Shaun Watson (eight points) were top scorers for the game.
The Horsham Hornets were the better team on the day in the Under 16 Division Two grand final, claiming victory over the Heat, 54 to 18.
The Under 12 Division One boys, led by former Mildura representative basketballer Jason Spratt, also made the grand final, but were defeated by the Traralgon T-Birds, 25 to 66.
The next tournament is in Bendigo in January.
