MILDURA’S Indianna Robertson is bound for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Argentina as a member of the Australian girls Hockey5’s team.
The 18-year-old goalkeeper, who is now based at the Waverley Hockey Club in Melbourne, joins the squad of nine girls travelling to Buenos Aires for the YOG, which begins tomorrow.
Medal matches for both the girls and boys hockey competition take place next Sunday.
The Buenos Aries Games marks the first time Australia has sent a female squad to compete in the modified version of field hockey at the YOG. The boys squad meanwhile head into the event as two-time defending champions.
Indianna began playing hockey in 2014 with Rivaside in the Sunraysia Hockey Association. She moved to Melbourne the next year and joined Victorian premier League club Waverley.
She obtained a Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) scholarship at the start of 2018, leading to an intense training schedule across the year at both Under 18 and Under 21 level. As well as making both Victorian sides, she was named as a member of Hockey Australia’s ‘Futures Squad’ in 2017, which identifies about 25 players with the potential to represent their country for both the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras.
Indianna has trained with the Australian Hockeyroos in the past, spending one-on-one time learning from Olympic goalkeeper Rachel Lynch.
