MILDURA, it’s time to Get Your Blues On!
Returning for its fourth year in 2018, Get Your Blues On Mildura is once again promising local lovers of the genre something special, with a star-studded line-up set to take the stage at the The Old Mildura Homestead on Saturday, April 21.
Kicking off at 3pm and running until 11pm, the stacked bill will be headlined by Jimi Hockings Blues Machine and Mike Elrington, PICTURED. We’re Wolf, Old Dogs New Tricks, The Breakaways and Paul N Jezza round out the bill, with a crowd of 700 people expected to attend.
Jimi Hocking has had an affinity with the guitar since he was a boy.
It was the mid-1980s when Jimi cut his teeth, playing hundreds of pub shows fronting bands like ‘The Astroboys’ and ‘The Astros’.
Known as Jimi the Human, he released two recordings, the top 20 live album ‘No Turning Back’ and ‘Living in Luxury’ in 1993.
In the mid-1990s Jimi was hired as lead guitarist for popular Australian rock band ‘The Screaming Jets’, and for four years toured with the band, while playing lead guitar, mandolin and keyboards on their 1995 top five, self-titled album, as well as the follow-up release ‘World Gone Crazy’, receiving two gold records for his efforts.
Jimi released his acoustic album ‘Based On Actual Events’ in 2001, and also won his third ‘CAV’ best acoustic performer award. That same year Jimi headed to New York for gigs in Manhattan and New Jersey.
In 2002 Jimi enjoyed a stint on the Australian festival circuit, while also putting his ‘Biscuit Boy’ studios through its paces, recording, playing on, and producing Dave Gleeson’s first solo album ‘Wanted Man’ while also chalking up a solo blues album.
In 2005 Jimi was crowned winner of the Solo/Duo section of the iconic International Blues Challenge in Memphis, USA, and subsequently embarked on a US tour.
In 2006 he released ‘The Ultimate Bootleg (vs2)’, and in 2008 continued tracking his latest blues album, while spending the rest of the year on the road, appearing at the Port Fairy and Woodford Folk Festivals among other events.
He was also named Producer of the Year for his work on ‘Blue Mandolin’ and Best Male Blues Artist at the VicTas Blues Awards.
Mike Elrington, meanwhile, is regarded as a gifted singer songwriter with incredible guitar skills.
Standing at almost two metres tall, Mike’s career has seen him perform at some of Australia’s finest festivals, including the iconic Byron Bay BluesFest, Bendigo, Sydney Blues and Roots Festivals and Blues on Broadbeach to name but a few.
Mike’s career started as an 18-year-old in Adelaide, and has seen him release nine albums and tour extensively across Australia, the United Kingdom and New Zealand.
