THE countdown is on for the ninth annual All Abilities Cricket Carnival in Mildura.
The two-day event for cricketers of all abilities, run by Mallee Sports Assembly and Cricket Victoria, will take place at Mildura Settlers Cricket Club at Mildura Senior College on October 25 and 26.
After a massive 14 teams entered the 2017 carnival, Mallee Sports Assembly’s Tanya Wild said there was already strong interest for teams for the 2018 installment.
“There has definitely been interest already for this year’s tournament,” she said. “Wyndham have already indicated they were keen to return.
“I know Cricket Victoria has already locked into a number of clinics at Mildura Specialist School leading into the carnival. While we always want to attract as many visiting teams as we can, we also want as many local teams involved as possible.”
Three teams from Mildura Specialist School, plus the Christie Centre-backed Mallee Dust-storm outfit took part and will likely be involved again this year.
Tanya added that Mallee Sports Assembly has been working with the Mildura Information Centre to develop a brochure to encourage visiting teams to explore the region while ‘on tour’.
“Some teams who are associated with schools could potentially use the carnival week as a school camp, and spend time exploring the region over the first three days of the week, before playing cricket on the Thursday and Friday,” she said.
Country Care Group is once again the major partners of the All Abilities Cricket Carnival. Mildura Weekly is also a proud supporter of the event, alongside the Mallee Sports Assembly, Mildura Rural City Council, Mildura Settlers Cricket Club, Cricket Victoria, and Merbein and District Community Bank.
