PROPOSED fixtures for the 2021 Sunraysia Football Netball League (SFNL) and Millewa Football Netball League (MFNL) have been released to clubs.
If adopted, the SFNL fixture would see the 2021 season kick off on Good Friday, April 2, with the traditional clash between South Mildura and Irymple at Sarah Oval, with the rest of the round played the following Saturday, April 10.
Four Saturday twilight matches and one Saturday night game have also been proposed to be shared between Quongdong Park and George Gordon Oval.
May 15, has been tentatively set aside for an inter-league match and round 13 on July 10, has been selected as the annual Indigenous Round.
The 18-round home and away season will finish on Saturday August 14, with the Grand Final slated for September 11, at the Brian Weightman Oval (City Oval).
The proposed MFNL fixture is literally a carbon copy of the 2020 season, with the exception of a week earlier start, due to a proposed inter-league game with the Broken Hill football League.
While discussions are in the infancy stages at this point, if the inter-league game does get the go-ahead, round one will commence on Saturday April 10, with the inter-league game proposed for Saturday May 15.
If an agreement cannot be reached between MFNL clubs and Broken Hill, it will see the season commence a week later on April 27.
Round five will see the MFNL stage its very popular Mega Day and the 15 round season will finish on August 7.
Two weekends of finals will see the Grand Final played out at Lake Cullulleraine on August 28.
It is understood that the Gol Gol Hawks Football Netball Club are extremely keen to play a number of Friday night games throughout the season, similar to what was planned for 2020.
For this to occur, the Hawks will have to negotiate with individual clubs and come to an agreement in regard to night games.
Prior to the 2020 season being cancelled, the Hawks had successfully negotiated two Friday night fixtures and are confident that a similar result can be achieved for 2021, giving Sunraysia its only taste of Friday night footy in the district.
