DIANA Newman has finished her career in health care with the best job in a working life that spanned decades.
Three decades were spent in aged care, including appointments as CEO and director of nursing, before taking on the role of geriatric co-ordinator at Mildura Base Hospital for 18 months.
But Diana’s most fulfilling role has been as business manager for the past three years with Sunraysia Cancer Resources, an organisation that had interested her soon after moving to Mildura and hearing chairman Jenny Gledhill talk at an Oak’s Day function.
When the hospital contract was nearing completion, Diana saw an advertisement for the business manager position and promptly applied.
“It’s been a good way to finish working life … it’s been the best job of my working life,” Diana said.
“You get the opportunity to do things for people that helps them immediately and they are so grateful. It’s quite humbling and gives a lot of job satisfaction.
“It can be helping people access flights and accommodation when they need to go for treatment, access to allied health services and emotional support.”
