MILDURA police say they are “extremely disappointed” after a weekend where nine motorists were found to be either drink or drug-driving.

A 30-year-old Mildura male was intercepted by police in Sunnyside Avenue, Mildura, at 12:15am on Saturday, February 16. An Evidentiary Breath Test conducted at the Mildura Police Station returned a positive result of .165. 

The man, who was also driving unlicensed, will be charged via summons to appear at court at a later date.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old Red Cliffs woman – a P2-Probationary driver – was intercepted by police in Sixteenth Street, Mildura, at 3.10am on Saturday, February 16. An Evidentiary Breath Test returned a positive result of .085. 

The woman received a penalty notice for Exceeding the Prescribed Concentration of Alcohol, with her licence immediately suspended for six months. 

A 19-year-old male passenger was also found to be in possession of a quantity of MDMA capsules, as well as an amount of cash, which was seized. The man was arrested and interviewed at the Mildura Police Station, and subsequently charged with Possessing MDMA, Trafficking MDMA, and other relevant charges.

He was remanded to appear at the Mildura Magistrate’s Court.

Police also intercepted a 58-year-old Mildura male Learner driver at 6.10am on February 16 in Ontario Avenue, Mildura, with a breath test revealing a positive result of .156.

The man will be charged via summons to appear at court at a later date for Exceeding the Prescribed Concentration of Alcohol and being a Learner driver driving without a experienced driver. His permit was also immediately disqualified for 12 months.

Robinvale police, meanwhile, intercepted a 40-year-old man at 7.44pm on Saturday, February 16, in Hocking Road, Robinvale. The man, who had an international licence, was allegedly found driving on the wrong side of the road while using a mobile phone.

A breath test also returned a positive result of 0.102. The man will be charged via summons to appear at court at a later date.

A 20-year-old Mildura male P2-Probationary driver will be without a license for 12 months after allegedly found to be drink-driving on Saturday, February 16.

Police say that they intercepted the man in Wentworth Road, Merbein, at 11.30pm. A breath test returned a positive result of .130, with the man also cited for not displaying P-plates.

His license was immediately suspended for 12 months, and he will be charged via summons to appear at court at a later date.

A 36-year-old Red Cliff man will also face court at a later date after allegedly recording a blood alcohol level of .151. Police say the man, who was also found to be unlicensed, was intercepted in Etiwanda Avenue, Mildura, at 11.30pm on February 16. 

A 34-year-old Mildura man will face court after refusing to undertake an Evidentiary Breath Test. Police say the man was intercepted in San Mateo Avenue, Mildura, at 3.15am on February 17, where a Preliminary Breath Test revealed the presence of alcohol.

A subsequent demand for the man to return to the Mildura Police Station for an Evidentiary Breath Test was refused. Subsequently, he was charged and summonsed to appear at court at a later date.

A 38-year-old Mildura woman is also facing charges of Exceeding the Prescribed Concentration of Alcohol and Driving Whilst Suspended after being intercepted in Seventh Street, Mildura, at 4.10am on February 17. An Evidentiary Breath Test was conducted, with the woman returning a positive result of .077.

Meanwhile, a 34-year-old Mildura woman was intercepted by police in Sixth Street, Mildura, at 3:30pm on February 17, where she was allegedly found drug-driving. An Evidentiary Oral Fluid Test was conducted at the Mildura Police Station, which returned a positive result for a prohibited substance. Police say the sample will be sent for further analysis.

Other weekend arrests made on Saturday, February 16, include a 49-year-old Red Cliffs woman and a 26-year-old Mildura woman.

The 49-year-old woman was arrested for being Drunk in a Public Place after being refused entry into a licensed premises on San Mateo Avenue. The woman refused to leave, with police arriving a short time later to arrest her.

She was transported to the Mildura Police Station and held in custody until she was fit to be released. She received a $645 infringement notice.

The 26-year-old woman, meanwhile, was in a vehicle intercepted by police on Benetook Avenue, Mildura, at approximately 1am on February 16.

She was found to be in possession of a small quantity of Methyl Amphetamine, and was arrested and transported to the Mildura Police Station for an interview. She was subsequently remanded in custody to appear at the Mildura Magistrate’s Court.
