Wentworth Football Club’s Oskar Faulkhead has been named as part of the Latrobe University Bendigo Pioneers 2021 Under 19 Boys squad.

He is no stranger to the Pioneers, having been part of their program since Under 15s.

Faulkhead, who lives in Red Cliffs but goes to school in Geelong, said he is “over the moon” to be named.

He is looking forward to continuously developing his ability and forming connections and relationships through the club.

Faulkhead, along with the 33 other footballers named in the group, has been working hard throughout the preseason to ensure they are ready for the first game of the season, on Easter Sunday, April 4, against the Murray Bushrangers in Shepparton.

Pioneers coach Danny O’Bree was buoyant by how well the boys have been training both individually and as a group since the beginning of preseason.

“The boys are fizzing to play football, its been a long time since they have had a NAB League game of football,” he said.

“They are super keen to get out there and just play football again.

“They have been working hard during education components to best understand how we want to play games throughout the 2021 season.

“As per the girls – we want to set the boys up to succeed in their football development – win, lose or draw.

“For our program it’s all about walking away from each training and game having learnt something and ensuring that you were a good teammate, playing your role and most importantly having fun – not about how many possessions you have.”

O’Bree, together with Brook Brown, talent operations lead, said both the main and development lists can be added to at any stage throughout the season, for players excelling at local league football.

“There are opportunities for boys throughout the season at local level, so I encourage the boys to continue to train hard and play good football with their local clubs as we have a number of coaches in the regions on the lookout for future Pioneers players,” Brown said.
