Workers who have found themselves unemployed due to the COVID lockdown in Victoria will be eligible for a support payment from Centrelink.

The Temporary COVID Disaster Payment will see eligible workers paid up to $500 a week.

Those eligible for this amount must normally work 20 hours or more a week and not qualify for holiday pay or other leave or benefit entitlements.

People who ordinarily work less than 20 hours a week will receive $325 per week.

The program comes into effect from Monday and people can apply online to Centrelink to register for the payments.

The payments will be made on a week-to-week basis.
