THE Mildura Field Days held their two day event at the Mildura Racecourse last week which attracted a record number of exhibitors and large crowds.
Speaking at the official opening on Friday, Mildura Field Days Coordinator Jo Rodda thanked her hard working team.
“You can’t put on an event like this without the help and support of a lot of other people,” she said.
“I have a great team behind me.
“I work with some of the best people in this district.
“The guys have been down here for over a week laying out the site and do an absolutely amazing job and so without them this even wouldn’t happen.
“Many of them are retired dried fruit growers, some are still grape growers and are still harvesting fruit and yet they are here.”
Ms Rodda said that one of the important things about the event , is the opportunity it gives for people to socialise.
“It is often understated, but the event is a great occasion for people to be with their mates and to catch up with people that haven’t seen for a while and what a fabulous place to do it at the Mildura Field Days,” she said.
“A big thanks you to everyone here today, to all of my team of volunteers and all of the exhibitors, without them we wouldn’t have such a fabulous event.”
Ms Rodda breathed a big sigh of relief that the event was up and running after recent heavy rains threatened to make holding the event at the racecourse difficult.
“It has been a challenging week in the lead up to the Field Days because the ground here has been a bit wet,” she said.
“Yesterday the boys had a full-time job pulling vehicles in and out of the bog and so it certainly has been challenging but it’s up and running and what a great event.”
Ms Rodda said that even after the exhibitors final list and site map were finalised, she still had people coming to her wanting to take a site.
“I put seven new exhibitors in on Monday and so I had to jiggle the sites around a bit to accommodate those additional exhibitors,” she said.
“Of course that also created a challenge for my official program which was already printed, but it was a good problem to have!
“I want to also thank the Weekly for their support this year.
“They have gone over and above in the work they have done for us in producing the Field Days guide.”
