EACH week Mildura Weekly will endeavour to recognise some of the best performers in Sunraysia Cricket from the previous weekend.

This edition we acknowledge the efforts of Mildura East Cricket Club female cricketer Caitlin Finch.

Finch is the captain at East and last Friday night took a hat trick, with 4/4 off two overs.

It was the second time Finch had bagged a hat trick, the first being with Mildura West Cricket Club 10 years ago.

Finch, who has been playing cricket for around 12 years, in both the men’s and women’s competition, took up the sport after watching her dad, Jason, in action.

“I remember Nangiloc juniors were short so I just started playing which then led to playing in town,” she explained.

“I was pretty excited to take the hat trick on Friday night, but I still would have liked to have my team win the game.

“Hopefully we get a few wins on the board this year.”

Notable performances in Division One cricket with the bat last weekend came from: Mark Thomson from Irymple Cricket Club, who made 36 runs, Shaun Mathews from Nichols Point Cricket Club, who made 44 runs and Darby McLean from Coomealla Wentworth Cricket Club, who made 39 runs.

In bowling, Chase Stone was effective with the ball for Irymple, taking 2/7, Brayden Wood from Mildura Settlers took 2/13 and Harrison O’Brien from Mildura West took 4/15.
