FOOTBALL is poised to resume next weekend in Sunraysia.
Although details are still being finalized in relation to all three local leagues – the Sunraysia Football and Netball League, Millewa Football and Netball League and Sunraysia Women’s Football League – it has been locked in that football and netball will return – albeit on NSW soil.
Peter Walker, executive officer of the SFNL, said two lots of matches will be held starting next weekend to complete the full round of games, with these two previously missed due to COVID restrictions.
“We will be returning to play and we will be revisiting rounds seven and eight,” Walker said, adding it is expected they will be played over Saturday and Sunday.
“Beyond that, we are yet to decide what the finals series will look.”
Walker said it is possible the traditional finals series will commence after the two rounds, or ideas had been thrown around about pushing the finals fixture out.
He expected the league would come to a more definite decision by early next week.
The MFNL and SWFL will also kick off again next weekend.
Although there is some uncertainty about what form the remainder of the season will look like, games will be held at Gol Gol next weekend and it is likely they will be held both Saturday and Sunday.
The clubs had come to an agreement on Tuesdays night to proceed straight to finals, in a six team format, however, it was objected to by one of the clubs the following morning which sent the league back to the drawing board.
It is now believed one of two options is likely to unfold: Teams will either play the remaining two games to complete another whole round before launching into finals, or they will head straight into finals next weekend.
Club presidents will meet tomorrow morning to decide on how to proceed.
