A RECORD amount has been raised for Sunraysia Cancer Resources (SCR) following last month’s biennial Mildura Falcon GT Run.

An astonishing $44,012.04 was raised through the 2018 fund-raiser – the highest amount ever raised by GT Run organisers in five attempts.

It was an amount that left SCR volunteers in visible shock this week, with GT Run organisers Frank and Natalie Romeo on hand to deliver the good news.

“We were a bit surprised ourselves to be honest,” a delighted Frank said.

SCR business manager, Diana Newman, said the funds would go a long way to help the local charity continue its work.

“Without this type of support we wouldn’t be able to support those in the community battling cancer,” she said. “This is the type of donation that helps keep our doors open.”

Natalie said the Romeo family had once again been blown away by the support shown by the community.

“It’s a figure that has certainly taken us by surprise,” she said. “I knew we were on track for a record amount raised, but to raise more than $40,000 is a great result.”

In addition to the GT Run held in Mildura’s Feast Street on April 21, which saw more than 80 cars on show, more than 300 people also attended a special function at the Club Da Vinci in support of the cause.

The Romeo family are no strangers to the work SCR undertakes in the community, with the group on hand to offer support when Frank underwent his own cancer battle in 2011.

In remission for the past five years, the Romeos have dedicated the GT Run to raising money for the local charity ever since, with this year marking the fifth time the biennial fund-raiser was held.
