ALL-ROUNDER Mark Thomson will join Shane Garraway as joint coach at Irymple for the 2019/20 Sunraysia Cricket Association (SCA) season.

Garraway was coaching the Swallows by himself last season and is set to spend a couple of years with the 23-year-old.

Ahead of his third season with the club, Thomson said he had signed with the view to learn the ropes of being a coach down the track.

“This gives me a chance to lean on Shane and learn a bit more from him before potentially moving into doing it by myself,” the former Merbein South player said.

“I’ve enjoyed the change (of club) and playing alongside some fresh faces.

“I’m only 23 but I’m still the third or fourth oldest in the team, so it’s really young. If we can hold onto that youth we should be in a good position for the next few years.”

Garraway said he is looking forward to working alongside Thomson with a club with talent and depth.

“With the amount of cricket he has played, I can learn a lot from him and he can provide something different and another voice,” he said.

“By the end of last season we had two or three guys under 20, who could have been playing in the First Division, so the depth is pretty good at the moment.”
