THE Millewa Football and Netball League has a long and proud history.

Founded in 1925, there are six teams that currently make up the competition: Bambill, Cardross, Gol Gol, Meringur, Nangiloc and Werrimull.

More recently the league associated with the Sunraysia Women’s Football League, and from this each of the MFNL clubs developed a female football side.

Behind these clubs are groups of loyal and passionate individuals, who all share a common goal – to see the league grow and thrive.

This was evident as members from each of the clubs came together for a league meeting on Monday night, and met with Mildura Weekly after to discuss what is needed to ensure the league continues to develop over many seasons to come.

There was no competitiveness about who anyone joining the league should or shouldn’t play for, it was a group of individuals with a common goal, wanting to see the league succeed.

The leaders of these clubs aren’t blow ins. They are people with a deep history within their respective clubs and the league, with many generations more often than not entrenched within their teams.

And that is what the Millewa Football and Netball League is about.

It’s about community.

It’s about family.

It’s about friends.

It’s got something for everyone – whether that be football for the men or women, or netball for the females and girls.

After COVID, across the board clubs are a bit light on for numbers, both in football and netball, but leaders want to remind people of the pre pandemic times. Of the feeling of being out on the court or field with their mates, doing what they love with a group of like-minded people, striving for a common goal.

It doesn’t matter who you are, the Millewa Football Netball League is where you will find friends, often lifelong, be it as a family or individual.

It’s where you can maintain a level of fitness, and play to a competitive level of your liking.

If Coronavirus taught us one thing, it’s the value of friendships and being part of a network, and the MFNL can provide you with this – you’ve just got to get back out there.
