LOWER Murray Water (LMW) this week announced the return of its Growers’ Conference, with the 2019 event to be staged at the Quality Hotel Mildura Grand on Thursday, October 24.
The conference aims to provide rural customers with an opportunity to hear first-hand from experts on issues such as Murray River operations and water availability outlooks, policies in relation to changes in water availability and demand, compliance, water markets and LMW’s strategic plans.
Speakers from the Murray-Darling Basin Authority, the Northern Victoria Resource Manager, Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning and AITHER, as well as LMW Chair, Cheryl Rix, and managing director, Anthony Couroupis, will also present at the event.
Delegates will also have the chance to ask questions about critical issues and topics on the day.
“This season is looking to be a challenging one with less than 100 percent allocation (Victorian irrigators currently have access to 38 percent of their water shares), so I encourage all our rural customers to take this opportunity to gain valuable knowledge to help make informed decisions,” Mr Couroupis said.
Mr Couroupis said the event provided a great opportunity to engage with rural customers.
“This event will help customers understand how the season is shaping up, and what opportunities exist,” he said.
Merbein irrigator Stephen Bennett will also be a guest speaker at the event.
“I’ll be going over some of the activities the Merbein CSAC committee has been doing, and the issues we have been addressing, while discussing things we’d like to look at over the never 12 months,” he said.
“Water availability and delivery is obviously the hot topic at the moment, as is government policy around this space.”
The Grower Conference is free to attend for LMW rural customers, and $75 for non-rural customers. Tickets can be secured via the LMW website, with seating limited.
