BALLOT packs for voters enrolled in the Mildura Rural City Council election have started arriving in local letter boxes.

Completed papers must be mailed or hand-delivered to the Victorian Electoral Commission election manager by 6pm October 23. Voters are advised to check their local mail clearance times.

Voters who have not received their ballot pack by October 16 should call 1300 118 635 during business hours to arrange a replacement.

A RECORD number of women have nominated as candidates in Victoria’s local government elections.

Minister for Local Government Shaun Leane said 2186 Victorians had nominated for election to their local council and an estimated 851, or 39 per cent, of nominees were women.

At the 2016 elections some 34 per cent of candidates were female, and 38 per cent were ultimately elected.

In Mildura, five candidates are women.

NORTHERN Mallee Leaders candidate forum last week used Zoom and Facebook live to assemble an audience – more than 50 viewers tuned in for the Facebook stream. All candidates except Cr Gavin Sedgmen (prior personal commitment) and Troy Bailey participated in the forum.

KRYSTYNA Schweizer, a supporter of Greens- endorsed candidate Katie Clements has told the ‘Weekly of damage to one of the candidate’s signs.

Krystyna believes it was “deliberately hit and knocked down” by a vehicle and says she has reported the matter to police.
