The Mildura District Orchestra held a two day development workshop recently, which saw ‘Master of Music’ Kevin Cameron, engaged to run the event, which aimed to improve the music skills of the orchestra.

The workshop ‘set-list’ music featured themes from blockbuster movies including Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Downton Abbey, James Bond and Indiana Jones.

Funded by Regional Arts Victoria, the workshop was designed to develop the standard of music and social interacting within members of the orchestra as well, and according to Mildura District Orchestra’s treasurer and workshop organiser Frann Sette, it was a huge success.

“We worked with Mr Cameron from 9am till 5pm on Saturday, then from 9am to 11.30am on Sunday,” Frann said.

“Sunday afternoon the orchestra performed a free concert in Langtree Mall with Mr Cameron conducting. “It was tiring and hard work, but worth all the effort of the orchestra members.
“The orchestra members are all great friends, but became even closer after a hard working weekend.”

Frann said that the orchestra was instructed on how to play the music, rather than playing the notes.

“This made a huge difference to the overall sound on the music,” she said.

“Mr Cameron commented on how well the orchestra adapted to his instructions and he thoroughly enjoyed the weekend.
“The concert in the Mall was attended by approximately 150 audience members, and we would like to thank those people for braving the cold wind and coming along to support the orchestra.”
