WITH life in Sunraysia slowly returning to ‘normal’ the Buronga – Gol Gol Senior Citizens’ group is encouraging anyone over the age of 55 to become members.
Members meet every Wednesday at 1.30pm to 4pm at the Midway Centre in Buronga and on the third Wednesday of each month they have a lunch starting at 12pm.
President of the Buronga – Gol Gol Senior Citizens, Wayne Follett, said there were currently 16 members and he was now putting the call out for new members from anywhere in the district.
“You don’t need to live in Buronga or Gol Gol to join, people from the other side of the river are more than welcome to become a member,” he said.
“Even if you are a member of a senior citizens’ club elsewhere, this is the chance to get out and socialise more often.
“We have a range of activities including carpet bowls, scrabble, bingo, trivia quizzes and board games, and at 3pm we stop for afternoon tea and draw our door prize.
“We are celebrating 20 years since our inception this year, and now that the COVID-19 restrictions are starting to ease, we would like to expand our numbers.
“It is all about social interaction, getting out of the house and having a little bit of fun. Like the Men’s Shed, it’s about mental health and mental wellbeing.
“We have just had a bus trip to the Euston Club for lunch and are planning a trip to the movies and tenpin bowling in the near future once restrictions in Victoria allow large groups to go together,” Wayne said.
Membership fees are $10 a year and $2 at the door to help with afternoon tea. For more information contact Wayne on 0427 238 922 or Trudy Andrews on 5024 8253.
