LOCAL female footballer Chantelle Mitchell has been awarded the Bendigo Pioneers Football Club 2021 Community Spirit award.

Mitchell, who plays for Nangiloc in the Sunraysia Women’s Football League as well as the Bendigo Pioneers, is also an artist and has this year designed a helmet for Supercars driver Cam Waters, along with painting a pair of football boots for Courtney Wakefield.

Mitchell was co-recipient of the award, sharing it this year with Pearl Sullivan.

She said it was overwhelming to receive the award, and it meant the world to her.

“I got really emotional receiving the award, just because of all my achievements and artwork,” she said.

“It’s all for my Pop.

“I wish he was here to see me achieve the amazing opportunities I have with my artwork.

“This year the Bendigo Pioneers have supported my artwork so much and I am so grateful.

“I was even given the opportunity to paint the best and fairest trophy, which was amazing to be asked to paint something so special.”
