VETERAN Mildura sportsman Bernard Meyer has again taken to Lake Cullulleraine in the opening weeks of the yacht club’s 2020-2021 season.
He plans to be at the lake every Sunday until next May as club members compete in regular races or “just to enjoy the breeze and relax”.
Bernard has been sailing since he first became interested in the sport almost 50 years ago, the last 40 years his watersport home has been Lake Cullulleraine where he now sails Double Dutch 2.
“We are always looking for more people, young and old, to join us or just come along to say hello and have a look what sailing is all about,” said Bernard who is secretary of Lake Cullulleraine Yacht Club.
He says the club has close to 40 members. “We have a well equipped club house with all mod-cons, beautiful grassy foreshore and safe access to the water for paddling and swimming.”
Our boatshed holds members’ boats as well as club boats which are available for use to all members that don’t have their own boat.”
Last Sunday’s high temperatures kept many members off the water but among enthusiastic youngsters Lachlan and Alana Chatfield who Mr Meyer hopes will be the next generation from that family to enjoy the sport.
