IT’S been a long time between innings, but tomorrow cricket will finally swing back into action locally.

Both the Sunraysia Cricket Association and Red Cliffs Cricket Association will host their opening round of matches.

Mick Thomson, president of the SCA, said it was great to see the cricket season finally get under way after a lengthy delay due to COVID.

“I would like to welcome all the clubs, players, volunteers, supporters and umpires to the 2021/22 season,” Thomson said.

“I thank all of the SCA board members for their work during these tough times as well as the clubs and players for being so patient for a season start date.

“Let’s hope we can get through the season without any more delays or lockdowns.”

Thomson said with cricket returning, he urged supporters to get down to their local club and show their support for their team.

“It will just be good to see sport back up and running in local communities,” Thomson said.

“Sport is such an important part of every community and town, people make life long friends and it is great to see volunteers putting so much into the community to make these things happen.”

This weekend the draw is as follows: Irymple v Mildura East (Henshillwood Reserve), Mildura Settlers v Nichols Point (Mildura Senior College), Gol Gol v Merbein South (Alcheringa Oval) and Mildura West v Coomealla Wentworth (John Hall Oval).
