MILDURA Police were called to a fight involving youths near Chaffey Secondary College in Deakin Avenue on Saturday afternoon.

Police said that when they arrived at the scene just before 4pm, about 10 youths ran from the area.

They said it was later established that there was to be a pre-arranged fight between a youth from Robinvale and a youth from Mildura.

As that fight was drawing to a conclusion, it has been alleged that some of the ‘spectators’ produced knives and a machete.

A short time later police intercepted a vehicle in Walnut Avenue. The vehicle was searched and it is alleged that a large hunting knife, large machete, small kitchen knife and a baseball bat were located.

One youth has been charged in relation to weapons offences and another received a penalty notice in relation to his alleged possession of a controlled weapon.

Inspector John Nolan said that while the incident was concerning, it was an isolated incident.

Meanwhile, a second brawl took place three days later outside Mildura Senior College.

On Tuesday at around 1.20pm, a car full of teenagers was seen arriving at Fourteenth Street and starting an altercation between two MSC students.

Police Inspector John Nolan said police attended the church grounds carpark near Havilah Cres and Fourteenth St in relation to a brawl.

One party to the brawl had left prior to police arrival.

A potential assault victim was interviewed by police but declined to assist.

Further enquiries are pending.
